Casinos and gambling in Central City

Try your luck at table games, slot machines, and virtual gambling!

It’s no secret that Central City has several casinos! After the gold rush ended, Gilpin County faced dwindling visitors. While the Central City Opera House still brought in some tourism, residents feared for the extinction of the historic town they loved. Without another form of revenue, Central City may have become a ghost town.

In 1990, 57% of Colorado voters approved an amendment to the state constitution that would allow limited-stakes gambling in Gilpin County. Funds generated by any casino games would go in part to help fund Gilpin County and the State Historical Fund. Now, taxes collected from gambling help generate money for local improvements and historic preservation.
